Meet The Breeder

Willamar is a small breeding program run by Emily Head in South Carolina. Emily grew up on the horse show circuit and is still an active, competitive member of the equine world, specifically dressage. Emily works in veterinary sports medicine, where she helps keep performance dogs and horses feeling their best. Emily’s love for competition, her knowledge and understanding of structural anatomy, movement, and soundness combined with her passion for the outdoors makes owning, training, showing, and breeding quality bird dogs a passion.

Our Goals As Breeders …

As breeders, our goal first and foremost is to produce healthy, sound puppies that are great ambassadors of their respective breeds. We strive to breed conformationally correct dogs with the structure to excel in the show ring, naturally talented dogs with the instincts to excel in the field, and temperamentally sound dogs that will make the perfect addition to anyone’s home.

Why we love our breeds …

Emily was first drawn to the German Shorthaired Pointer for many reasons, but she was ultimately looking for a farm companion that could double as a hunting partner. A dog that could be present in all aspects of her equine life. She needed a dog that had the energy and stamina to be outdoors and active with her all day long, and a temperament that was gentle with the horses and friendly with visitors and strangers. Several years after getting her first German Shorthair, Emily was introduced to the Small Munsterlander through the NAVHDA organization. She was immediately intrigued by the breed’s smaller size and calmer disposition.
